Birthday, as defined by Wikipedia is an occasion when a person celebrates the anniversary of their birth. These celebrations are often accompanied with gifts, merriment, show of love and care generally. Simply put, Birthday is the annual remembrance and celebration of an individual’s Birthdate.
Personally, I feel Birthdays are just awesome moments. It is a day filled with the expression of God’s love and mercy towards an individual. It’s a time when everyone that matters to you gathers to rejoice with you in commemoration of the day you were delivered to the world for impacts.
I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed the warmth and mushy feelings that fills birthdays; you know, happiness immeasurable, untold joy and a feeling of fulfillment.
For me, the love shown alone gives me inexplicable joy, while the gifts; just like the icing on the cake makes it more merrier…abi, even Jesus Christ got birthday gifts (see matt 2:11).
The bible in Psalms 90:12-50 gives a vital reason for this celebration … So teach us to number our days... I believe this is a key reason for birthday celebration, as it gives room for a reflection of God’s mercy all round the previous year and on the commencement of another.
Nonetheless, as they say, different strokes for different people; as beautiful as birthdays seems and appeal to some of us, there is no denying the fact that there are some who don't believe in celebrating
birthdays and I have discovered overtime that, people in this school of thought, whether as a result of doctrinal belief or personal belief have their reason founded in the biblical aftermath of birthday celebration recorded in the bible (Genesis 40:1-23, Matthew 14:3-11).
My question is this, should we because of few events generalize? Should we say because of few negative aftermaths of some birthdays decide not to celebrate birthdays again? Does a business man stop investing because he failed in one?
Needless to say again that birthday is… the day the Lord has made; You and I should rejoice and be glad in it (Psalms 118:24).
Okay, maybe I'm being unrealistic, let’s have your view(s) on birthday; but I'm certain of this, whatever we do in life, it must give glory to God. As you present your view(s) for our understanding, I’ll leave you with this bible passage:
One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honour of the Lord –Romans 14:5-6a (ESV).
May your days be filled with God’s goodness and blessing innumerable. Radiate God’s beauty as you age, and have plenty Fun.
